I&M Announces Proposed Power Line Route for Winchester Project

January 13, 2021

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Indiana Michigan Power (I&M) today announced the proposed route for an electric transmission line as part of the Winchester Area Improvements Project.

Company representatives determined the route after reviewing input from landowners and community members following I&M’s project announcement and virtual open house last November.

The project involves upgrading about 1 mile of electric transmission line, expanding a substation and making minor upgrades to another substation to help enhance electric reliability in the area. The project involves rebuilding some sections of the power line in the company’s existing right-of-way and re-routing other sections.

Company representatives plan to directly contact individual property owners in the coming months to discuss what to expect before, during and after construction.

As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic and the social distancing recommendations made by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), I&M and its contractors are limiting in-person visits with property owners to ensure the safety and health of the public and company representatives.

Construction begins in spring 2022 and concludes in summer 2025. To view an interactive map of the proposed power line route visit IndianaMichiganPower.com/Winchester.
