Michigan Assistance Programs

We know times are challenging right now. Our goal is to keep your power connected and help you catch-up on past-due bills. In addition to payment arrangements, state-specific assistance programs can help you keep your bill manageable and your lights on.

We also work with many organizations that can help you find local and federal assistance. We are ready to help you find the best option for you.

Senior Citizen Discount - Michigan The Senior Citizen Discount is designed for Michigan customers, age 65 or older that use less than 900 kWh of energy a month.
Service Charge Waiver (LICUS) - Michigan Qualifying customers will save $87 a year when the $7.25 monthly service charge is waived. The Service Charge Waiver is designed for Michigan customers with a household income that does not exceed 150% of Federal Poverty Level.
Income-Qualified Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) LIHEAP is designed for customers with a household income that does not exceed 150% of Federal Poverty Level.
Energy Assistance Program (MEAP) - Michigan MEAP helps Michigan income-qualified customers pay their energy bill through a 24-month payment plan. To qualify, customers must be at or below 150% of the federal poverty level and have received State Emergency Relief assistance. To apply, contact a MEAP community partner.
Homeowner Assistance Fund (MIHAF) – Michigan MIHAF is designed to help Michigan homeowners with their a mortgage payment if they are experiencing hardship due to COVID-19 If you are a renter in need of assistance the Emergency Rental Assistance (CERA) program may be able to help.

Helping Others in Our Communities

Surprise Someone You Love Direct gifts to a recipient of your choice through our Friends & Family Direct program. You decide the amount to give, and your loved one's account will be credited immediately upon receipt. Download and mail the Friends & Family Direct form to brighten someone's day.
Help Someone Facing Disconnection You can help a relative or friend keep their power on by receiving notifications when their account is at risk of being disconnected. Often, people add this free service to accounts of vulnerable customers. You are not responsible for paying the bill.
  1. Print a Third-Party Authorization Form
  2. Have the primary account holder complete, sign and mail the form authorizing you to receive notifications on their behalf
  3. As an authorized third-party, you will receive notifications if their account is at risk of of being disconnected.
