We are proud of our strong commitment to environmental responsibility. Energy and the environment are inextricably linked, and we work hard to protect the environment while delivering affordable, reliable service.
Our diverse energy mix produced more than 85% emission-free energy in 2020. Our generation fleet includes power from 14 renewable energy plants and one nuclear plant, and we are committed to adding more renewable power in the future. Customers can join us in support of renewables through our IM Green program.
Environmental stewardship is about more than generating energy. Our service territory is an expanse of fields, woods, forests and communities lush with vegetation. We work to balance the natural beauty of the Midwest with the need to optimize public safety and reliability. Learn more about trees, safety and reliability.
Each year we sponsor and volunteer for many events promoting environmental stewardship, including Earth Day and Arbor Day events, The Great Tree Canopy Comeback and more.
Every spring we host the FalconCam high atop our headquarters in Fort Wayne. You can watch falcons nesting, laying eggs and raising their young via a live webcam at our nest box, which is one of the country’s most successful falcon boxes. Indiana Department of Natural Resources biologists, along with volunteers from Soarin' Hawk Raptor Rehabilitation center, help care for the young birds and band them at an event for local children, helping to educate the next generation about the importance of the ecosystem.
We also invite to you spend some time at the environmental section of our corporate web site. You'll find information about AEP's environmental performance as well as our efforts with renewables and energy efficiency. You'll also learn about some very exciting environmental educational programs, and how we're helping students better understand the issues.
