We have restored power to more than 85% of those affected by yesterday’s high winds. Sustained 25-35 mph wind speeds were joined by gusts as high as 63 mph in Fort Wayne, and 59 mph in Benton Harbor and Muncie. There was extensive damage across our system from fallen trees and limbs, including more than 35 broken poles.
Approximately 1,600 customers remain without power on more than 200 widespread outages. As the restoration progresses, we will be working more in small neighborhoods and yards.
Crews from fully restored areas are moving into the harder-hit Fort Wayne, Muncie and Southwest Michigan areas. We are adding as many outage-specific ETRs as possible and will continue to update estimates as we work through the remaining outages. We encourage customers to sign up for mobile alerts for updates, or to check the app or outage map for the latest information specific to their account.

SAFETY INFORMATION
Today is expected to be nicer than yesterday, but it will still be breezy and there are still many downed limbs and tress from yesterday’s high wind. Please watch for::
- Downed power lines. Stay away from any downed wires and report them to I&M. You can call us at 800-311-4634, report on our app or website, or call 911. Downed wires may be hidden by limbs and debris or touching a fence, so look carefully before cleaning up after the storm.
- Trees may still fall or drop limbs at any moment, please look up.
- Fallen leaves may hide debris or downed wires, so look around carefully.
- Watch for debris, limbs or trees down in roads. Please slow down and be mindful of first responders and utility workers on the roadways.
- If you are using a gas-powered generator, only run it outside and away from windows, never inside your home or a garage. These generators can produce deadly carbon monoxide fumes.
- It is hunting season, so please be careful on trails and wooded areas. If you’re a hunter, please watch for our crews working in the field.
