AEP Ohio awards Amesville with Sustainability Roadmap and incentives for installation of a solar panel at the History Shelter
AMESVILLE, Ohio, September 24, 2014 – AEP Ohio, a unit of American Electric Power (NYSE: AEP) has announced that the village of Amesville has exceeded its participation goal in Community Energy Savers, 6 weeks ahead of their deadline.
The pilot program works with governments and communities to encourage residents and businesses to participate in energy efficiency programs offered by AEP Ohio. Not only do community members benefit from saving energy and money in their homes and businesses, but also their actions help the community receive incentives from AEP Ohio that can be put towards an improvement project identified by the community.
Working with AEP Ohio, Amesville established a goal of 12 participants in a number of AEP Ohio energy efficiency programs for residents and businesses over a four-month period. While participation counts will still be processed throughout the duration of the pilot, Amesville has already exceeded its goal and is eligible to receive their awards.
For its success, AEP Ohio is awarding Amesville with assistance in developing a Sustainability Roadmap that will provide a framework for their ongoing sustainability initiatives, and $650 to use towards the installation of a solar panel at the Frank and Catherine Hare History Shelter.
To achieve this goal, the Mayor of Amesville led a remarkable effort promoting AEP Ohio’s energy efficiency programs and educating the community on the benefits of energy efficiency and sustainability, and AEP Ohio’s available programs.
“This was a great project for the community, local businesses and schools,” said Mayor Goosman. “The village will use the award money to install a solar system on Amesville’s history kiosk in Gifford Park. Also, we will continue to work with AEP Ohio on a sustainability plan for the entire community as part of this effort. This fits right in with other projects to help citizens better manage energy costs happening in Athens County right now.”
The formal check presentation to the village will happen at the October Village Council meeting on Wednesday, October 8 at 6:00 PM.
