We all provide service in some sense. Whether through responsibilities within our jobs or paying it forward in the coffee line, those small acts can unknowingly impact others. Simply showing up in the community can mean a lot to an organization and the individuals they care for. It can also leave an impact on a volunteer. For some, serving others is personal and others, it has turned into a transformative passion.
For I&M’s Laura Schoening, the joy she feels in seeing people smile drives her to continue volunteering. Her passion for serving her community started from an early influence: her mom. That influence impacted her to always strive to give back and use her knowledge to benefit others. An example, she says, she has followed all her life. Nitaya has been ballroom dancing for several years. As a Special Olympic athlete in track, basketball and bowling, she takes on each day with a purpose because of Easterseals Arc of Northeast Indiana. Every ballroom dancer benefits from a partner, and for the Dancing with the Arc Stars, I&M’s Jarrod Wilson served as hers.
