I&M in Your Community

April 10, 2026

I&M employees live and work in the communities they serve. They also enjoy volunteering, talking with customers, and partnering with local organizations to make a lasting impact. In March, our employees could be found making a difference across our service area.

I&M Lineworkers Share Safety and Talk Careers

South Bend and Elkhart employees used the interactive I&M Safety Trailer to teach local students about electrical safety at a Junior Achievement event. Lineworkers demonstrated the dangers associated with electrical lines and equipment, and other employees answered questions about careers available at I&M. We also shared the career opportunities we offer at the Third Annual BLDG Trades Day, organized by the South Bend Regional Chamber and held at the University of Notre Dame. Students were able to connect with local professionals in the trades, including I&M. Employees enjoyed answering questions about their work and how it could fit students’ interests as the industry grows.

Potawatomi Zoo and the Indiana Michigan Power Foundation Announce New Zoo Train

The CP Huntington–replica electric train is ready to welcome Potawatomi Zoo guests this season. The Indiana Michigan Power Foundation is the sponsor of the electric train, as both organizations share the goal of improving the environment and experience for zoo visitors and the local community.

Science Central Opens Planetarium

The Indiana Michigan Power Foundation has long partnered with Science Central to open the region’s only public planetarium. The new 1,830-square-foot planetarium features a 21-foot-high, 28-foot-wide dome that seats about 50 people. I&M is committed to providing memorable, high-quality STEM experiences for the community.

Navigator Award

I&M received the special Navigator Award during the fourth annual Women in the Workplace Scorecard luncheon hosted by the Women’s Fund of Greater Fort Wayne. I&M received the award for overall performance based on local employers’ participation in the Women’s Fund Compass Survey, which measures key indicators such as leadership, compensation, benefits and policies, and recruitment and retention practices. I&M has two women serving as vice presidents and has expanded benefits—adding six weeks of paid maternity leave and six weeks of parental leave.

In 2025, our employees volunteered for more than 4,100 hours and provided grants to 137 local organizations in our Indiana and Michigan communities. You can read more about our support and volunteerism on our community page.
