The Birds are Back in Town

March 3, 2026

A sure sign that spring is on the way: the peregrine falcon pair Moxie and Jamie are back in the nest box high atop the Fort Wayne skyline.

As falcon fever heats up, here are five things to know about the famous downtown flyers.

  1. This will be the 14th season for Moxie and Jamie, who have called the roof of the Indiana Michigan Power Center home since 2013. Tall buildings support falcons, as they typically nest on ledges of cliffs and river bluffs for access to food and safety.
  2. Since 1996, 74 peregrine falcon chicks have hatched atop the I&M building. Jamie and Moxie have accounted for more than 30 of those chicks.
  3. Moxie and Jamie have previously welcomed their first egg in mid-March. The timing can vary based on territorial competition, recent weather, and past nesting experience.
  4. This year might look a bit different. Moxie’s age might play a factor in when or whether we see chicks. Moxie is nearly 16, so her reproductive ability may be reduced, but still possible.
  5. Our Falcon Cam attracts birdwatchers both near and far. Since 2019, the live feed has recorded more than half a million unique visitors – some as far away as Australia, Japan and China.

If we see eggs this year, I&M will partner with Soarin' Hawk Raptor Rehabilitation, the Indiana Department of Natural Resources and the Indiana Audubon Society to name and band the chicks. Check Falcon Cam as "egg watch" begins and follow I&M on Facebook for updates.
