Go Green at Work in Michigan
With Indiana Michigan Power's GoGreen Program, you can voluntarily support green energy for less than 1 cent per kilowatt hour (kWh).
You can commit to 10% to 100% of your monthly kWh usage in 10% increments. If you are a typical commercial customer who uses 100,000 kWh per year here is how it would look if you participated at 10%, 50%, or 100%
- 10% of your energy use to renewable green energy for just $35.60 per year,
- 50% of your energy use for just $178 per year, and

In 2022, we generated more than 80% of our energy from emission-free sources, including solar, wind, hydro and the Cook Nuclear Plant, and our energy efficiency programs help reduce customers’ energy use, which also lowers demand for generation of electricity. I&M and our parent company, American Electric Power, aim to achieve net zero carbon dioxide emissions by 2050.

GoGreen is a voluntary renewable energy program that provides Michigan residential customers the opportunity to support wind and solar energy at a level beyond the renewable energy you already receive from I&M's generation fleet.
GoGreen includes a simple, on-bill tariff option to support renewable energy certificates (RECs) from I&M's solar and hydro generation assets and wind procurement. These RECs represent the renewable energy attributes of the power I&M provides to the grid and directly lower your carbon footprint.

GoGreen is a simple, easy and cost-effective way to connect with your employees, customers and other stakeholders on your commitment to sustainability and renewable energy, especially for I&M customers where installing solar panels or wind turbines at your own operations may not be feasible or cost-effective.

Based on I&M's current state-approved tariff, the RECs you support in Michigan starting in May 2022 will now cost $0.00356/kWh. This rate, while not shown on your monthly bill, is the difference between the Surcharge rate of $0.01877/kWh less the Renewable Energy credit rate of $0.01521/kWh. This will appear on your monthly bill as two line items.
The table below shows costs for GoGreen participation based on a commercial facility's energy use of 10,000 kWh per month across a range of participation options.
Percentage of Your Organization's Energy Use |
Monthly Cost (Based on 10,000 kWh Monthly Energy Use) |
10% | $35.60 |
20% | $71.20 |
30% | $106.80 |
40% | $142.40 |
50% | $178.00 |
60% | $213.60 |
70% | $249.20 |
80% | $284.80 |
90% | $320.40 |

GoGreen is a voluntary program, and if you choose to participate, the level of participation is your choice. Participation can be from 10 percent to 100 percent of your monthly kilowatt-hours (kWh) of energy use, in increments of 10 percent.
Your support for RECs based on your level of participation will be billed monthly on a per kWh basis as an additional line item on your bill. I&M then manages the administrative REC chain-of-custody documentation activities annually on your behalf.
-
-
The RECs in the GoGreen program come from renewable energy generation at I&M's company owned-and-operated solar and hydro generation plants in Indiana, and Michigan, respectively, and from wind power we purchase from four Indiana wind generation plants.
-
-
Beyond demonstrating your organization's commitment to sustainability and renewable energy, the net proceeds from your participation helps I&M reduce renewable energy surcharge costs for all Michigan customers. Also, your support for the RECs directly lowers your organization's carbon footprint.

No. Due to the nature of the power grid, it is impossible to track which electrons used at your business were generated by any one particular renewable energy generation plant. This is why RECs were created and your RECs legally represent the environmental and renewable energy attributes of each kWh of renewable power we provided to the grid.

Commercial and Industrial Customers can Bring Your Own Contract
Larger businesses that want to go the extra mile to support renewable energy and meet your company's sustainability/green energy goals can work with I&M to develop a custom solution that meets your needs.
Perhaps your company is interested in partnering with I&M on a new renewable energy resource or seeking creative ways to show your business is going above and beyond to support clean, renewable energy. GoGreen's Bring Your Own Contract option allows an interested business, industry or institutional customer to work with I&M to directly purchase the electrical output and associated environment attributes from a renewable generation resource through a tailored contract.
