I&M Plans Additional Randolph County Transmission Improvements

November 23, 2020

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Indiana Michigan Power (I&M) plans an approximate $40 million investment to upgrade the electric transmission network serving customers in Randolph County in eastern Indiana.

The Randolph County Area Improvements Project involves rebuilding about 19 miles of 69-kilovolt transmission line and upgrading two substations. Company representatives plan to rebuild the transmission line in the existing right-of-way, though in some areas it may need to be widened.

This project complements the transmission project in Winchester that I&M announced earlier this month. Together, these projects will enhance reliability of the power grid serving the area.

As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic and the social distancing recommendations made by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), I&M and its contractors are limiting in-person visits with property owners during this process to ensure the safety and health of the public and company representatives.

The company expects to begin construction in mid-2022 and conclude by early 2024. Additional details are available at IndianaMichiganPower.com/RandolphCounty and at IndianaMichiganPower.com/Winchester
