AEP Texas made significant gains Wednesday restoring power to 98% of the areas of south Texas that were affected by a severe thunderstorm Tuesday morning that left more than 36,000 customers without power. As of 5 p.m. Wednesday, approximately 710 customers remained without power in the affected areas.
In the Corpus Christi area, approximately 630 customers remain without power, down from a peak of 32,250 yesterday.
Over the past two days, AEP Texas has brought 150 personnel to the Corpus Christi area to assist with power restoration. Additional crews traveled to Texas today in anticipation of severe weather expected to hit the area Thursday.
Restoration percentages for the areas hit hardest by the storm are as follows:
Corpus Christi south side 99% restored
Corpus Christi midtown 93% restored
Kingsville, Sinton and northwest CC 99% restored
Aransas Pass 99% restored
Power restoration to the remaining 485 customers in midtown Corpus Christi is expected to be completed by noon Thursday. All other areas should be fully restored by Wednesday evening.
In areas near Falfurrias and Freer, 45 customers remain without power, down from a peak 2,590 customers yesterday.
“We are grateful for the patience that south Texas has shown our crews as they worked to restore power to all of the affected areas of this storm,” said Bruce Evans, acting AEP Texas president. “We remain prepared and ready to respond to any severe weather over the next few days which may affect customers served by AEP Texas.”
Generator Safety
If you use a portable or RV generator, do not plug the generator into your circuit box. Portable generators "backfeed" electricity up the line and risk the lives of repair workers and the public. Follow the manufacturers' instructions carefully, and plug essential appliances directly into the generator.
