Electricity is essential to daily life. We often overlook interactions with live lines, like those buried in our yard, lining the sky or after a storm has taken them down. Staying safe around power lines starts with proper education, which can be lifesaving.
Line workers with I&M participated in the 15th Annual Allen County Public Safety Fair on Sept. 23 to demonstrate the importance of safety around power lines. The event looks to educate the community on the planning ahead in case of an emergency. This was done through hands-on activities and safety demonstrations with safety personnel.
The safety trailer provides a visual demonstration of potential real-life scenarios involving power lines. Tips shared with attendees included the importance of calling 811 before digging outside and what to do if involved in a car accident involving a power line. It also highlighted what happens when electricity meets a bird or squirrel.
