I&M Storm Outage Update 9 a.m.

June 12, 2020

Indiana Michigan Power has restored service to more than 97% of customers who lost power during Wednesday’s windstorm. Crews are working this morning to restore the fewer than 475 customers in the Fort Wayne area who remain without service.

More than 270 employees and contractors from across I&M’s service area worked Thursday in the Fort Wayne and Marion/Muncie areas to restore power for our valued customers. Determined to restore service to all affected customers served by a particularly hard-hit circuit near Harlan where at least five poles were downed, I&M crews worked throughout the day Thursday with customers being restored last evening at 11:30 p.m.

Restoration has been completed in areas west of Marion, including Sweetser, Swayzee and Converse. Today, crews are working in the Meadowbrook area between Fort Wayne and New Haven and another area near Churubusco to restore all of about 465 remaining customers by day’s end.

All customers affected by the storm will be restored by 11 p.m. this evening, with many customers restored prior to that time.

As crews continue to make progress, more specific Estimated Times of Restoration (ETR) will be available directly to those who remain without service. Customers can keep up with the latest information specific to their account with our mobile app, outage map, or mobile alerts.

The customers affected by Wednesday’s storm were among the 32,000 affected by three separate storms this week. The storms affected a wide swath of I&M’s service territory, including Northeast Indiana; Southwest Michigan; East Central Indiana; and the South Bend/Elkhart area.

I&M thanks all of our customers for their patience while our crews worked to restore power as soon as safely possible.

SAFETY INFO

Given the high winds, accompanied by heavy rainfall at times, please pay attention to several safety precautions:

  • Crews will be following all CDC guidelines on physical distancing and we urge the general public not to approach our crews.

  • Temperatures and humidity levels remain high for this time of the year. We urge anyone working outside to look for signs of heat stress and take appropriate precautions at the first sign of heat-related fatigue.
