I&M PARTNERS WITH INDIANA LIBRARIES TO OFFER A NEW ENERGY EFFICIENCY AWARENESS PROGRAM

FORT WAYNE, Ind., August 1, 2013 – Indiana Michigan Power (I&M), is rolling out a new energy efficiency awareness program that will give consumers the opportunity to understand their energy consumption by measuring how much electricity their household appliances and electronics use.  The Kill-A-Watt EZ Meter Program has been developed in partnership with libraries throughout I&M’s Indiana service territory.  Library patrons can checkout Kill-A-Watt EZ meters from their local participating libraries (see list below) in the same manner as library audio-visual materials.

The Kill-A-Watt EZ Meter device works by plugging it directly into a wall outlet and then plugging an appliance directly into the meter – as shown below.  The meter will measure kilowatt hours (kWh) used over the period of time it is engaged.  The kWh usage can then be multiplied by the cost per kWh, determining the cost to run the electrical appliance.  In Indiana, the standard residential customer pays approximately $0.10 per kWh.

The meter also allows you to calculate your electrical expenses by the day, week, month or even year.  Meters come packaged in boxes that include instructions to help users calculate energy costs associated with household electrical appliances.

This energy efficiency awareness program gives consumers a tool they can use to manage their energy usage while at the same time making a contribution to the environment.  I&M offers a wide variety of energy efficiency programs for both residential and business customers.  To learn more visit:  www.indianamichiganpower.com/save
