I&M is Powering the Next Response as Employees Deploy to Storm-Ravaged Louisiana

June 16, 2023

FORT WAYNE, Ind., June 16, 2023 – Indiana Michigan Power (I&M) is answering the call for help after severe storms Thursday night rampaged through Louisiana and Texas. I&M employees and contractors will be partnering with our AEP sister company, Southwestern Electric Power Company (SWEPCO), in Louisiana.

As of 4:00 p.m., nearly 250,000 SWEPCO customers were without power. More than 250 I&M employees and contractors will help turn the power back on for those in Louisiana and Texas. This includes line workers, damage assessors, forestry experts, safety professionals and a small management team. Crews will travel over the Father’s Day weekend to receive assignments and begin 16-hour work days to help return a sense of normalcy to affected communities. I&M employees will help place new power poles, string new power lines, and make repairs to restore power.

When severe weather hits, being able to call in help from other companies nearby, or even states away, can make all the difference for a safe and fast restoration. SWEPCO crews have helped restore power to families, friends and neighbors in Indiana and Michigan after derechos, ice storms and other severe weather. I&M is pleased to return the favor for their communities in this time of need.
