Safety is always our top priority and Indiana Michigan Power. As of January 7, 2023, I&M employees completed the impressive feat of reaching two years without a DART event - an injury resulting in Days Away, Restricted or Transferred.
For two years, 730 days, or 1,051,200 minutes, I&M employees have worked together safely. And it's come at a time with unprecedented challenges and changes.
During this period of great safety success Mother Nature sent extreme heat and cold, floods, snow and ice, record-setting wind storms and more. Crews traveled off-system to help after devastating events like the 2021 ice storm in Appalachia and Hurricane Ian last summer, working in unfamiliar terrain and hazardous conditions.
This all took place as we continued to adapt to a changing work environment, complications from the pandemic, and a workforce concurrently aging and getting younger. Yet our safety performance continues to improve.
Particular credit goes to our culture, leadership and investing early in new employees. Even as experienced personnel retire and line crews continue to grow younger, our safety record improves. "I have to credit a lot of that to each individual leader we've got out there," said Dave Isaacson, vice president Distribution. "It's a brother's keeper environment, and we see that in the culture as much as our safety performance. It's really embodied at how engaged we are at the level of the newest of our employees."
