Celebrate Our Admins

April 23, 2024

Lineworkers, meter specialists, forestry experts and fleet mechanics are all integral to I&M’s success. Equally, administrative professionals keep I&M smoothly functioning day-to-day.

National Administrative Professionals Day is April 24. From helping employees to keeping work groups organized and being a source of knowledge, I&M’s admins often go beyond their roles. And, they don’t mind one bit

“The camaraderie of the people when someone needs help is paramount at I&M and D.C. Cook Nuclear Plant – I’ve never seen this anywhere else,” said Kristy Spessard, senior department administrator at D.C. Cook Nuclear Plant for the Radiation Protection Unit. “I&M is a great place to work. I only wish that I had started here more than 10 years ago.”

From scheduling meetings, managing executive leadership calendars, submitting payroll and expense reports – no two days are the same. Cheryl Fahrenbach, executive administrative assistant, has learned that lesson over her nearly 18-year tenure with I&M.

“Every day is a little different. I have been able to work with and support some very smart and great people,” Fahrenbach said. “From fellow admins across AEP to great, down-to-earth bosses. Everyone has been very encouraging. I have a great respect for each employee I’ve worked for and with.”

Lexi Harding, administrative assistant senior at D.C. Cook Nuclear Plant for Site Protection Services, has been with I&M for two years. She echoes Fahrenbach’s sentiment.

“No matter your department or role, everyone is willing to help where assistance is needed,” Harding said. “Despite the size, the relationships that are formed with your co-workers are genuine. “

For Tamara Kelley, administrative assistant senior at Rockport Plant, it’s all about the numbers.

“I work in the accounting group and that includes several different roles like sustaining capital records, work orders, payroll administration to name a few,” Kelley said. “I love working with numbers and figures – especially asset values and work order history. I love it, and my co-workers think I’m crazy for loving it, but they are glad I do!”

Kelley has been with AEP for nearly 47 years. She’s appreciative for the diverse, talented and smart employees she works with and offers a bit of career advice.

“I’ve seen and appreciate the great efforts our company has made on creating a diverse work force and being open to diverse opinions – that’s what makes us better every day,” Kelley said. “As far as advice, never quit learning, always look for better way to do your tasks and do what you can to create and maintain a positive outlook in your work group. It all makes such a difference.”

It’s safe to say our administrative professionals across I&M, D.C. Cook Nuclear and Rockport plant make all the difference.
