Powering Gratitude

April 23, 2024

Our lineworkers play a valuable role at I&M, but also within the community. They weather challenging conditions and sacrifice their time to deliver reliable and safe power to our customers. Throughout our organization, we appreciate the work they do and the passion they show for individuals nearby or miles away. And our customers feel the same.

In recognition of the recent National Lineworker Appreciation Day on April 18, customers had the opportunity to submit messages of gratitude for I&M’s lineworkers.

“To say thank you is not enough for all the hard work you render during the worst of times. While we are home comfortable, you are out there trying to make sure that comfort is always maintained. Thank you again.” – Prasad, Saint Joseph, Mich.

“Thank you so much for taking care of us. We take electrical service and YOU for granted. Thank you for everything you do!!” - Amy, Fort Wayne, Ind.

“We know your job isn’t an easy one. At times it’s grueling. Thank you for all you do to help our family and neighbors. Stay safe! – Roger, Grabill, Ind.

With this opportunity, we received nearly 1,900 messages from customers to our lineworkers. Emails came from all directions within our 24-county service area in Indiana and 6-county area in Michigan. This totals a territory of 4,500 square miles throughout 164 communities.

“Thank you for all you do! My fiancé and I got to experience lineworkers’ incredibly strong work ethic due to tornado damage at our home in Winchester, Indiana. The lineworkers seemed to work around clock for the 5 days that we were without power due to meter box damage. We cannot thank them enough for all they did for us. Thank you again.” – Kylee, Winchester, Ind.

“You are appreciated for showing strength… courage… and caring… as you maintain electrical power to the families and businesses in Niles.” – Mary, Niles, Mich.

“Thank you for keeping us safe”. – Leslie, Fort Wayne

Linework requires significant passion. Often, crews are called upon in the middle of the night, during stormy conditions, on holidays and family gatherings to respond to emergencies. They work to safely restore power for customers to resume their normal lives, but also to restore hope following a catastrophic weather event.

“In the state of Indiana, where unpredictable weather and challenging conditions are a reality, your tireless efforts are especially commendable. Whether it's restoring power during severe storms or maintaining our electrical grid to prevent outages, your hard work and professionalism are truly admirable. Your selflessness and bravery in the face of danger inspire us all. The sacrifices you make, often working long hours in hazardous conditions, ensure that our communities remain safe and connected. Your resilience and unwavering determination embody the spirit of service that makes our state proud.” -Stephen, Elkhart, Ind.

“Thank you very much for your dedication to keeping the power on! Your hard work is greatly appreciated! We depend on you!” – Judy, White Pigeon, Mich.

We are humbled by the response from our community thanking our lineworkers, and further expressing appreciation for the work they do as first responders each day.

“Thank you for your dedication and hard work to the communities and residents you serve!” – Cherry, Benton Harbor, Mich.

“Thank you for your work on regular sunny days. Thank you for your work especially at night, or in the cold, snow and sleet, or during times of natural disasters. You are appreciated far more than you know.” – Kay, Fort Wayne

“Thank you thank you for being so wonderful! We have had some crazy storms in Indiana recently and we are SO grateful for your diligent work in getting our lines put back together so we have power! Thank you for all you do, and please be careful!” – Anna, Muncie, Ind.

“You make a difference every day.” – Paul, Selma, Ind.
