A popular Fort Wayne attraction was the site of a community event educating visitors how science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) can be applied to future career opportunities.
As part of its Career Day, Science Central sought local organizations to highlight daily responsibilities of their profession for young attendees. This included the chance to directly interact and see how STEM principles are utilized in skilled trades.
For some, these opportunities to learn more about STEM education may not be possible but through I&M and the AEP Foundation, attending this was more feasible. Through the partnership, we sponsored reduced rate of admission, opening potential for many to join Science Central for this event. And the community responded – 403 visitors came through the door to learn more about STEM-focused careers.
Along with the AEP Foundation, we work with local organizations to make exposure to STEM education possible. By leading and supporting hands-on programs in Indiana and Michigan, our team is providing equal means for youth to be exposed to these career possibilities earlier. This support provides direction for the future that might not have otherwise been possible.
