Employee’s Holiday display a Sock-cess

January 18, 2024

Did you know socks are the least donated item at local shelters? Kurt Girardot, Fleet Technician based in Fort Wayne, knows that fact. That’s why, just in time for bitter cold temperatures, he will donate socks to local non-profits.

Using an elaborate light display full of nearly 13,000-pixel lights, a QR code and a driveway donation box – Girardot gathered 1,355 pairs of socks. He plans to donate half to Invisible Vets and half to Shepard’s House in Fort Wayne.

“I’m grateful to everyone that drove by, sent money via the QR code and donated socks,” said Girardot. “The light display puts a smile on people’s faces during the holiday and also provides warmth to those who need help in our community. As the display grows, I can only hope the sock donations increase.”

Girardot has created impressive light displays for more than 15 years and uses new technology to make the shows better than the year before. He is already planning for this year as he will add 6,000 more pixels to the display. Girardot will start piecing the show together near Halloween and the lights will shine bright after Thanksgiving.

Girardot collected more than 1,300 pairs of socks and will donate them to Fort Wayne organizations.
