WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
Indiana Michigan Power (I&M) has restored power to 92% of customers impacted from last night’s severe storms. As of 7:30 p.m., approximately 1,500 customers in the Muncie and Winchester areas remain without service.
I&M anticipates working through the evening to restore a majority of impacted customers who can receive power by 11 p.m. tonight. Depending on the scope of damage and the type of repairs needed, individual outages may linger into tomorrow. Customers can sign up for text or email alerts regarding their individual outage on I&M’s mobile app or at IndianaMichiganPower.com/Alerts or on I&M’s outage map at IndianaMichiganPower.com/OutageMap.
Please be aware, additional power outages may be needed to allow crews to safely make repairs and restore power.
Our 1,200 storm restoration team – including I&M employees, contractors and mutual assistance personnel worked safely through the heat, humidity and additional rainfall to ensure power is restored to affected communities.
As cleanup continues, customers are encouraged to treat any downed lines and anything they may be touching, such as fences or standing water, as energized. Call your local police department or I&M immediately at 1-800-311-4634 to report any safety hazard.
Customers all need to determine whether their home can receive power. I&M cannot connect power to a home or business if there is damage to the service entrance, which is owned by the customer. A licensed electrician must repair damage before power can be restored. Learn more about the responsibilities of a property owner and I&M here.
SAFETY MESSAGES:
Stay Away from Downed Lines: Remember, all downed lines should be considered deadly. The power line and anything it could touch, including fences or in standing water, can carry electric currents which could cause serious or even fatal injuries. If you see a fallen wire, keep yourself and others, including pets away and call 911 or Indiana Michigan Power immediately at 1-800-311-4634.
Trees could fall or drop limbs at any moment, please look up.
Take it slow on the road. For those driving, take it slow and be on the lookout for utility personnel, emergency personnel and tree removal crews working in the area.
Let us know if you're using a generator. This protects you and our line workers as they work to restore power. See our Generator Safety Tips for a full list of ways to stay safe.
