6/19 1p RESTORATION UPDATE

Update: 6/19/2025 1:10 PM ET

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:

  • I&M’s 1,200-strong storm restoration team, comprised of employees, contractors and mutual assistance personnel, continues to work quickly and safely to restore power to customers who lost service amid Wednesday’s severe storms.
  • As of 12:30 p.m., fewer than 4,000 customers are without power – down from more than 17,000 at the peak of the storm. Most impacted customers, approximately 3,300, are awaiting restoration in the Muncie, Ind. area.
  • I&M anticipates restoring power to a majority of customers who can receive power in the Winchester area by 6 p.m. tonight and in the Muncie area by 11 p.m. tonight. Customers can sign up for text or email alerts regarding their individual outage on I&M’s mobile app or at IndianaMichiganPower.com/Alerts.
  • In the Muncie area, damage assessors discovered 40 broken or damaged poles and 70 individual spans of downed wires. Please be aware, additional power outages may be needed to allow crews to safely make repairs and restore power.
  • As customers cleanup, please treat any downed lines and anything they may be touching, such as fences or standing water, as energized. Call your local police department or I&M immediately at 1-800-311-4634 to report any safety hazard.
  • Now is the time for customers to determine whether their home can receive power. I&M cannot connect power to a home or business if there is damage to the service entrance, which is owned by the customer. A licensed electrician must repair damage before power can be restored. SAFETY MESSAGES:

  • Stay Away from Downed Lines: Remember, all downed lines should be considered deadly. The power line and anything it could touch, including fences or in standing water, can carry electric currents which could cause serious or even fatal injuries. If you see a fallen wire, keep yourself and others, including pets away and call 911 or Indiana Michigan Power immediately at 1-800-311-4634.
  • Trees could fall or drop limbs at any moment, please look up.
  • Take it slow on the road. For those driving, take it slow and be on the lookout for utility personnel, emergency personnel and tree removal crews working in the area.
  • Let us know if you're using a generator. This protects you and our line workers as they work to restore power. See our Generator Safety Tips for a full list of ways to stay safe.
