6/19 9a RESTORATION UPDATE

Update: 6/19/2025 9:00 AM ET

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:

  • I&M’s storm restoration team made quick and safe progress overnight restoring power after widespread severe weather disrupted service to customers. As of 8:30 a.m., 4,100 customers are without power – down from more than 17,000 customers at the height of the storm.
  • I&M has restored power to most storm impacted customers who are able to receive power in southwest Michigan, South Bend, Elkhart and Fort Wayne. A majority of the remaining affected customers are in the hard-hit Muncie (approximately 3,400) area.
  • •       I&M anticipates restoring power to all customers who can receive power in the Winchester area by 6 p.m. Thursday and in the Muncie area by 11 p.m. Thursday. Customers can sign up for text or email alerts regarding their individual outage on I&M’s mobile app or at IndianaMichiganPower.com/Alerts.
  • Approximately 1,200 I&M employees, contractors and mutual assistance personnel will work to restore power to impacted customers. Our team will navigate additional rainfall, warm temperatures and storm debris to restore power.
  • As customers begin cleanup, please treat any downed lines and anything it could touch, such as fences or standing water as energized. Call your local police department or I&M immediately at 1-800-311-4634 to report any safety hazard.
  • Now is the time for customers to determine whether their home can receive power. I&M cannot connect power to a home or business if there is damage to the service entrance, which is owned by the customer. A licensed electrician must repair damage before power can be restored. SAFETY MESSAGES:

  • Stay Away from Downed Lines: Remember, all downed lines should be considered deadly. The power line and anything it could touch, including fences or in standing water, can carry electric currents which could cause serious or even fatal injuries. If you see a fallen wire, keep yourself and others, including pets away and call 911 or Indiana Michigan Power immediately at 1-800-311-4634.
  • Trees could fall or drop limbs at any moment, please look up.
  • Take it slow on the road. For those driving, take it slow and be on the lookout for utility personnel, emergency personnel and tree removal crews working in the area.
  • Let us know if you're using a generator. This protects you and our line workers as they work to restore power. See our Generator Safety Tips for a full list of ways to stay safe.
