6/18 9p RESTORATION UPDATE

Update: 6/18/2025 9:00 PM ET

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:

  • Widespread severe weather moved across I&M’s service area this afternoon and evening bringing damaging winds, heavy rain and frequent lightning. There are reports of downed trees and power lines, as well as broken power poles.
  • As of 8:30 p.m., I&M has more than 15,000 customers without power. A majority of those affected customers are in the greater Muncie (approximately 10,000) and South Bend (approximately 3,000) areas.
  • As part of its proactive storm preparation efforts, I&M requested mutual assistance ahead of the storm.
  • Approximately 1,200 I&M employees, contractors and mutual assistance personnel will work to restore power to impacted customers.
  • Where it is safe to do so, damage assessment and response is already underway. Crews will work through the overnight hours to restore power where possible.
  • Safety remains a significant concern. Please treat any downed lines and anything it could touch, such as fences or standing water as energized. Call your local police department or I&M immediately at 1-800-311-4634 to report any safety hazard.

SAFETY MESSAGES:

  • Stay Away from Downed Lines: Remember, all downed lines should be considered deadly. The power line and anything it could touch, including fences or in standing water, can carry electric currents which could cause serious or even fatal injuries. If you see a fallen wire, keep yourself and others, including pets away and call 911 or Indiana Michigan Power immediately at 1-800-311-4634.
  • Trees could fall or drop limbs at any moment, please look up.
  • Take it slow on the road. For those driving, take it slow and be on the lookout for utility personnel, emergency personnel and tree removal crews working in the area.
  • Let us know if you're using a generator. This protects you and our line workers as they work to restore power. See our Generator Safety Tips for a full list of ways to stay safe.
