Storm and Outage Details

WHAT’S NEW:

• Additional mutual assistance personnel are joining Indiana Michigan Power’s (I&M) robust storm restoration team after a second weather system caused power outages across the service area.
• More than 2,000 I&M employees, mutual assistance personnel, contractors and support staff are working across Indiana and Michigan to safely and quickly restore power.
• As of 12:30 p.m., approximately 8,800 customers affected by Thursday’s storms are without power, down from a peak of more than 35,000. Approximately 2,700 customers impacted by Friday night’s storms are without power, down from a peak of around 10,000.
• I&M damage assessors and crews have discovered more than 260 individual spans of downed wires and 165 broken or damaged power poles in southwest Michigan. Assessors working in Indiana have found more than 30 individual spans of downed wires and 20 broken or damaged poles.
• High winds are expected through the day, which could cause loose branches or limbs to fall. If customers are cleaning up from storm damage, please be alert and look up at your surroundings. 
• I&M has established Event Estimated Times of Restoration (Event ETRs) for the Thursday and Friday storms. This is when I&M expects to have power restored to most customers who are able to receive power at their homes or businesses. Many customers will receive service before the estimated time.

  • South Bend:  Saturday, 11:00 PM
  • Fort Wayne:  Sunday, 8:00 PM

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:

• Please be aware, as crews work to safely repair the electrical system additional outages may occur. Customers can stay up to date with their specific outage with the I&M Mobile App - IndianaMichiganPower.com/App.
• Customers should determine if their home can receive power. I&M cannot connect power to a home or business if there is damage to the service entrance, which is owned by the customer. A licensed electrician must repair damage before power can be restored. Learn more about the responsibilities of a property owner and I&M here. 
• I&M urges the public to remain a safe distance away from crews restoring power. Our team is working near dangerous equipment, often in clearly marked safe areas. Please be alert in work zones and give enough room to keep crews safe as they work to restore power.
