WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

We know the past few days have been difficult for many of our customers, and we appreciate your patience as crews continue restoration efforts.

Friday and Saturday Wind Storms:

  • Indiana Michigan Power (I&M) crews, along with support teams, have been working around the clock since Friday and Saturday’s severe windstorm to restore power impacted by downed trees and damaged equipment.
  • As of 3 p.m., about 78 customers in the Muncie/Marion and Fort Wayne areas remain without power across 10 outage locations. Winds permitting, those customers will be restored today.
  • Our crews are actively working on each outage and are moving as quickly and safely as possible ahead of another round of strong winds. If wind speeds become too high for safe work in the air, restoration may be delayed until conditions improve.

If your power is out, why don’t you see crews working by your location?

  • In some cases, there may be an issue on another part of the electric system that caused your power outage. So even if you don’t see crews outside your location, please know that they are working on your outage and doing everything they can to get you restored.

Today’s Weather Forecast:

  • As crews continue this restoration work, a new round of strong, sustained winds are moving into parts of our Indiana service area.
  • We are already seeing some outages as a result of these winds.
  • As of 3pm, conditions have caused about 3,000 new customer outages.
  • Looking ahead, I&M teams are closely monitoring the evolving weather forecast, which includes the potential for additional severe weather, cooler temperatures, and even snowfall for some customers. Our crews are prepared to respond quickly and safely to any new service issues while continuing to restore customers still affected by Friday and Saturday’s storm.
  • We understand how frustrating and disruptive it is to experience outages—especially when storms happen back‑to‑back. Thank you for your patience as our teams work through challenging conditions.
  • We still have I&M crews and outside support personnel on site and ready to respond if this next round of severe weather causes further outages.
  • The fastest way to get information is through the I&M app and text or email alerts. The app shows outage details for your home or business, and alerts can send estimated restoration times. Customers can download and enroll in alerts here.

SAFETY TIPS

  • Watch out for downed wires. Stay away from downed power lines and anything it may be touching – like a fence or a tree. Report any hazard to I&M at 1-800-311-4634 or to local police.
  • Give crews space. If you see an I&M crew, please give them enough space to work and do not try to ask them questions. They are working with and near dangerous equipment.
  • Be aware of your surroundings. Look up if you’re outside as the saturated ground could cause a tree or limb to fall at any moment. Also, be aware of debris flying in the air or into the roadway.
  • Some traffic lights are out. If a stoplight isn’t working, treat it as a stop sign. Take it slow on the road.
  • Use generators safely. Connect all appliances directly to the generator. Don’t connect the generator's electrical output to any home or building electrical circuits. Don’t use gas-powered generators in enclosed or partially enclosed spaces, like inside a garage or a home.
