WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

As we experience severe weather and changing conditions, we know how difficult outages are for you and your family. Our job is not done until everyone’s power is restored. With winds picking up and severe weather moving into I&M’s territory, crews will continue working safely through the night to restore power and respond to outages.

Friday Windstorm:

  • All 28,000 customers affected from Friday’s extreme winds have had their power restored. Crews worked long hours to safely repair damage from high winds and downed trees to restore customers. We thank our customers for their patience and the support they have shown to our crews as they worked around the clock to have service restored.

Today’s Weather Forecast:

  • Across our service area we are experiencing another round of strong winds that is contributing to outages. Due to ongoing conditions, approximately 2,000 customers were without power at 8 p.m.– mainly in the Muncie/Marion area.
  • Outages could increase as we see heavy rainfall, strong winds and snowfall across Indiana and Michigan. Winds will be especially strong between the hours of 8 p.m.-2 a.m. tonight, reaching speeds of 60-75mph.
  • I&M crews along with outside support personnel will be working overnight to restore power and are responding to outages as weather conditions allow. If wind speeds become too high for safe work in the air, restoration may be delayed until conditions improve.
  • The fastest way to get information is through the I&M app and text or email alerts. The app shows outage details for your home or business, and alerts can send estimated restoration times. Customers can download and enroll in alerts here.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

If my power is out, why don’t I see crews working near my location?

  • In some cases, there may be an issue on another part of the electric system that caused your power outage. So even if you don’t see crews outside your location, please know that they are working on your outage and doing everything they can to get you restored.

A storm just came through causing my power to go out, but there’s not a restoration time for my outage. Why?

  • Once it’s safe to work, our crews will begin assessing the damage and develop estimated restoration times. We’ll share those with you as soon as they are available.

SAFETY TIPS

  • Watch out for downed wires. Stay away from downed power lines and anything it may be touching – like a fence or a tree. Report any hazard to I&M at 1-800-311-4634 or to local police.
  • Give crews space. If you see an I&M crew, please give them enough space to work and do not try to ask them questions. They are working with and near dangerous equipment.
  • Be aware of your surroundings. Look up if you’re outside as the saturated ground could cause a tree or limb to fall at any moment. Also, be aware of debris flying in the air or into the roadway.
  • Some traffic lights are out. If a stoplight isn’t working, treat it as a stop sign. Take it slow on the road.
  • Use generators safely. Connect all appliances directly to the generator. Don’t connect the generator's electrical output to any home or building electrical circuits. Don’t use gas-powered generators in enclosed or partially enclosed spaces, like inside a garage or a home.
