News Release from Junior Achievment of Northern Indiana (Condensed version)

Fort Wayne, IN – Junior Achievement of Northern (JANI) Indiana has received two significant donations in support of its “Casting the Vision” capital campaign.

Indiana Michigan Power announced a grant of $300,000 from the AEP Foundation, while The James Foundation unveiled a $2 million donation to JANI. The donation from The James Foundation is the single-largest in the history of JA of Northern Indiana.

Both donations were announced at an event held July 17 at the site of the new JA of Northern Indiana facilities at the southwest corner of Coldwater and Wallen roads in Fort Wayne. The pledges will go toward funding Junior Achievement of Northern Indiana’s Casting the Vision campaign, which aims to raise $12.5 million for the relocation and expansion of its headquarters, as well as its JA BizTown® and JA Finance Park® facilities and the development of a new Entrepreneurship Center.

“Preparing today’s young people to achieve economic success in a global economy is vital,” said Toby Thomas, president and chief operating officer of Indiana Michigan Power. “I&M has a long association with Junior Achievement of Northern Indiana, and we’ve seen first-hand the value of the knowledge and inspiration JA passes on to students. I&M is proud to announce a grant of $300,000 from the AEP Foundation to support this much-needed new facility that will enable JA to accommodate future growth and build for its future.”

“We are incredibly grateful to The James Foundation and the AEP Foundation,” added Lena Yarian, president of JA of Northern Indiana. “Both organizations believe in providing new educational opportunities for our youth. These donations will help us in the pursuit of our vision of providing localized career development programs and an entrepreneurial center that can meet the needs of a younger, savvier generation of entrepreneurs.”

During the 2017-18 school year, JANI reached more than 142,000 students in 30 counties. Junior Achievement of Northern Indiana has the greatest market share of any JA chapter in the nation. JANI facilitates numerous creative, community-focused events and programs throughout the year – all geared toward supporting and enhancing the organization’s entrepreneurial education, workforce readiness and personal financial literacy programs.
