Why Should I Save Energy?
Hear Answers from PSO Employees at Bunche Early Childhood Development Center Today at 9 a.m.

April 20, 2012

Why Should I Save Energy?   PSO employees will give the many reasons why as they celebrate the Week of the Young Child by reading to Bunche Early Childhood Development Center students.

Energy is precious. The world’s fuel supply won’t last forever. Saving energy saves money so you can have extra treats now and then. These reasons and more are depicted in the illustrated children’s book, Why Should I Save Energy by Jen Green.  PSO employees will read the book to four-year-olds at Bunche Early Childhood Development Center located at 5402 N. Cincinnati in Tulsa, today, April 20 at 9 a.m.

Louie Lightning Bug will make an appearance in all 7 Bunche classrooms, where the children will learn important lessons on saving energy.

Week of the Young Child is sponsored by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). The purpose is to focus public attention on the needs of young children and their families and to recognize the early childhood programs and services that meet those needs. The 2012 Week of the Young Child is April 22–28, and this year's theme is Early Years Are Learning Years

The Bunche event kicks off a series of events statewide for PSO-sponsored early childhood education programs and events to celebrate WOYC.

"PSO is pleased to help sponsor today’s reading program at Bunche, and other reading and early childhood education activities in communities across the state,” said PSO President Stuart Solomon. "We have a long legacy of supporting positive educational experiences for children, and we know that these activities will stimulate learning for both children and their families in a fun and healthy atmosphere.”

Statewide, the Week of the Young Child PSO-sponsored activities include:

  • Louie Lightning Bug electrical safety theatre presentations and safety tip handouts to hundreds of elementary students in McAlester, Krebs, Hugo, Ft. Towson and Wright City.
  • A PSO-sponsored Tulsa Family Fun Fair, in collaboration with Tulsa Community College and Child Care Resource Center and the Tulsa City-County Library.
  • Great Plains Family YMCA Reception in Weatherford, along with the issuance of a Mayoral Proclamation.
  • McAlester Week of the Young Child school parade, downtown McAlester.
