Energy Share, a partnership between Indiana Michigan Power (I&M)  and community action associations in Indiana and Michigan, will provide assistance again this year to eligible low-income customers who may need help maintaining electric service.

I&M donated $200,000 to the agencies to fund the program for the seventh consecutive year. I&M launched Energy Share in 2004 with donations to the Indiana Community Action Association and the Southwest Michigan Community Action Agency. The agencies administer the program, distributing grants to applicants who qualify for assistance. 

“This year’s donation is larger than in previous years because the need is expected to be greater with reductions in state and federal energy assistance programs,” said Sarah Bodner, Director of Communications and Community Relations for I&M.  “Energy Share continues to provide much needed assistance to families who are experiencing financial hardships. I&M is committed to help customers through these challenging economic times.”

In addition to providing financial assistance, I&M offers energy efficiency programs in Indiana and Michigan that can help reduce a household’s overall energy use and save customers money. The company has an online energy audit that can help customers pinpoint opportunities to save money.

I&M also offers alternative payment plans such as its Average Monthly Payment Plan and Equal Payment Plan which can help eligible customers level out monthly payments and make monthly electricity costs more predictable.
