As a kid, picking what you want to be when you get older can be a mixture of opportunity and wonder – the possibilities seem endless. Making a final decision can take time and changing one’s mind a few times. Through hands-on career experience, kids can figure out what their passions are and how to pursue them.
Michigan students at Constantine Middle School took part in Career Day, featuring several local professionals discussing their typical roles at work. Representing I&M at this event were Joshua Richardson and Colin Saltzman. The pair completed rotations with 15-20 students at a time, discussing responsibilities they have each day as a line mechanic-A.
Each presentation gave the opportunity to discuss a career at I&M, as well as how collaboration within a team accomplishes the important duties that come with the job. They also highlighted the training they completed to get to where they are now.
The three sessions lasted 30 minutes each with roughly 60 total students taking advantage of the learning opportunity. By the end of the day, attendees held a better understanding of what career options are available, what is needed to pursue careers like these and how developing a passion for your work can last a lifetime.
