On two cold, snow-flurry filled days in Benton Harbor, I&M’s energy efficiency team provided a service to the community enhancing something we all have in our homes – a refrigerator. On Jan. 5th & 6th, the team safely installed 42 energy-star certified refrigerators at Plaza Manor, an income qualified senior living center.

Did you know old appliances, especially refrigerators and freezers, could add up to $150 annually to an electric bill? Most of the refrigerators originally in the units at Plaza Manor were built before the year 2000. These new Energy-Star certified refrigerators that I&M installed will help keep electric bills more affordable to those calling Plaza Manor home for years to come.
“For me, the best part about the installations is seeing how thankful the senior citizens and the living center is that I&M is improving an aspect of their everyday life while helping them to conserve energy,” said Rich Gadacz, EE Weatherization Auditor.
The installations were a part of I&M’s Income Qualified Refrigerator Replacement Program. I&M’s energy efficiency experts work with income qualified residents and businesses to ensure quality appliances to help reduce energy consumption. In the last 5 years, I&M has installed nearly 400 refrigerators.
