When visitors step off the elevators of the Indiana Michigan Power Center (IMPC), the sprawling view of Fort Wayne is always a favorite attraction. As part of the Women’s Fund of Greater Fort Wayne’s Take a Girl to Work Day, local middle school girls were able to take in this view as they met with female leaders across I&M.
The May 15 event connects over 300 sixth-grade girls with local women in leadership positions at over 40 workplaces across the city for a day of mentorship and inspiration. Now in its second year, the program offers an exclusive opportunity to ask questions, learn more about gaining professional experience and what a career looks like in different fields. For I&M, it means sharing the work we do within our community by means of economic development, energy efficiency, providing reliable energy and supporting over 600,000 customers.
After their time at IMPC, the students attended a luncheon featuring remarks from several local female leaders, including I&M’s vice president of External Affairs and Customer Experience, Katie Davis.
American Electric Power (AEP), the parent company of I&M, was previously named in Forbes Magazine’s America’s Best Employers for Women 2024 list, marking the fifth consecutive year for the honor.
