I&M Celebrates Economic Development Week

May 12, 2025

Despite industry or size, all businesses share the common need for reliable power. Whether moving or expanding operations, having a knowledgeable team who drives collaboration and identifies appropriate resources to meet your organization’s unique energy needs is essential.

That’s where Indiana Michigan Power’s (I&M) Economic and Business Development team comes in. And during Economic Development Week, we highlight their work to promote growth throughout our territory and beyond. Celebrated May 12 – 16, Economic Development Week was created in 2016 to recognize the contributions made by economic development professionals in our growing communities.

“The work we do goes beyond site selection or providing resources, instead it is focused on helping our communities grow, supporting relationships, making jobs available and boosting the same cities many of us call home,” said Ashley Savieo, I&M Director of Economic and Business Development. “We know if our communities are thriving, then we are moving in the right direction.”

Focused on Relationships

Collaboration is key to growth. And relationships with stakeholders, especially in local communities, are vital. I&M’s team strives to develop community-focused relationships by offering education opportunities for community leaders to become stronger stewards of resources and develop confident tools for business. This work is beneficial to incoming organizations but also work done with chambers to maintain relationships and promote growth on a local level.

Attention to Detail

With any new or expanding business, finding the ideal shovel-ready site relies on meeting strict criteria. Having a team with local knowledge on things like proximity to high voltage power, access to basic utilities and appropriate zoning requirements, can help keep projects moving forward. Additionally, internal partners, such as customer service, distribution, transmission, legal, regulatory and more, help to manage extensive details and keep a consistent workflow.

Driving Success for Customers

As communities grow, the focus on our customers remains a top priority. The I&M Economic Development team works alongside local, regional and state organizations to understand the unique needs of businesses and how meeting those needs can then impact local communities. This includes current efforts to provide resources and support to areas advancing new sites to attract employers, which increases job opportunities and available resources.
