I&M'S COOK NUCLEAR PLANT UNIT 1 RETURNS TO SERVICE.

September 12, 2011

Indiana Michigan Power’s (I&M) Cook Nuclear Plant Unit 1 returned to service Friday evening, September 9 at 7:08 p.m. following an automatic shutdown of the main turbine that occurred on September 7.

An analysis of the cause of the turbine shutdown found the issue to be with electronic instrumentation used to monitor the turbine and not a failure of the turbine. All safety systems functioned appropriately and Cook’s Unit 2 remained at full power during the Unit 1 shutdown.

The 1,036 net megawatt (MW) Unit 1 and 1,107 net MW Unit 2 combined produce enough electricity for more than one and one half million average homes.

Indiana Michigan Power is a unit of American Electric Power [AEP:NYSE].
