I&M is Powering The Next Reliability Enhancement Project in Grant County with an $11 Million Investment

October 27, 2022

MARION, Ind., Oct. 27, 2022 – Indiana Michigan Power (I&M) representatives plan to invest approximately $11 million to enhance the electric transmission network in Grant County.

The Northern Marion Transmission Line Project involves rebuilding approximately five miles of 69-kilovolt transmission line connecting the Marion Plant Substation off North Branson Street to the Hummel Creek Substation off North Huntington Road.

The project strengthens the electric transmission system by replacing deteriorating wooden poles from the 1960s with modern steel poles. Most of the current existing poles throughout the line have outdated and broken equipment. Upgrading the line with modern equipment improves the line's operational performance, reduces the likelihood of extended power outages and the need for frequent equipment repairs.

I&M representatives plan to communicate project updates with landowners in the area throughout the process. Construction is planned for early 2024 and is expected to conclude by late 2024.
