I&M PLANS TO IMPROVE RELIABILITY WITH ST. JOSEPH COUNTY PROJECT

December 1, 2020

ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. – Indiana Michigan Power (I&M) plans to enhance energy service to customers in St. Joseph County, Ind., with upgrades to the electric transmission network.

The Northern St. Joseph County Area Improvements Project will provide reliable service to customers in portions of South Bend, Warren and German Townships.  I&M would construct approximately 3 miles of new 138 kilovolt (kV) transmission line and build a new substation near U.S. 31 and Adams Road.

The improvements will ensure customers in the area remain with high-quality electric service. As well as provide an additional power source, help reduce outage duration times and promote economic growth in this portion of St. Joseph County.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and physical distancing guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), I&M will host a virtual open house. Starting today, landowners and community members are invited to learn more about the project and share input until Monday, Dec. 28.

I&M encourages landowners to provide input to help the company determine a final proposed power line route. Please visit IndianaMichiganPower.com/NorthernStJoseph to access project information, view an interactive map and submit comments through a “Contact Us” link.

Company officials expect construction to begin in late 2021 and conclude in Spring 2022.
