For several years, we have been fortunate to serve our Indiana and Michigan communities. As neighbors, we believe it is important to contribute to the communities we live and work in.

Through the American Electric Power Foundation, we invest each year in numerous community organizations. Many of which are focused on STEM education, families, housing, youth and more.

Foundation Helps to Equip Teachers with the Right Tools for the Job

Organized by the South Bend Education Foundation, the annual August Back-to-School Bash allowed educators to visit the Teacher Store, presented by the AEP Foundation, for their classroom essentials. This year’s Teacher Store assisted 104 SBCSC teachers with supplies and materials.

I&M Partners with Super Shot to Kick Off Upcoming School Year

Fort Wayne’s Super Shot Clinic hosted families needing required back-to-school immunizations at an event to kick off the upcoming school year. The first 100 children to receive their vaccination at this event claimed a free backpack with school supplies, funded by the AEP Foundation.

I&M has worked alongside AEP to award over $43,000 in grants focused on promoting education and overall student achievement to teachers, schools and agencies serving school-aged children. Recipients of these grants are within I&M’s service area or are in communities with major I&M facilities.

The South Bend Alumni Association (SBAA) aspires to support education within the South Bend School Corporation by offering funding for extra-curricular activities and instilling an awareness of needs for student service in the community. Last school year, they impacted over 8,000 students and their families through their mission. And now, with a partnership from Indiana Michigan Power (I&M) and the American Electric Power (AEP) Foundation, that number is set to grow in the future.

Along with the AEP Foundation, we work with local organizations to make exposure to STEM education possible. By leading and supporting hands-on programs in Indiana and Michigan, our team is providing equal means for youth to be exposed to these career possibilities earlier. This support provides direction for the future that might not have otherwise been possible.
