AEP Texas update on winter storm restoration in west Texas (1-5-2015; 11 a.m.)

January 5, 2015

As of 10:30 a.m. on Monday, AEP Texas had restored power to 95 percent of consumers in Alpine and surrounding areas in the aftermath of the winter storm in west Texas.   The number of outages had been reduced to approximately 160 at that time, as compared with approximately 5,400 at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday.

“We are continuing to focus on restoring power for remaining outages, which are concentrated for the most part on the western side of Alpine and nearby areas,” said Fred Hernandez, AEP Texas community affairs manager.   “Many of these outages are more isolated in nature and have to be addressed individually.”

AEP Texas crews completed restoration this morning to the remaining 140 outages in the Sunny Glen subdivision.   Service restoration to other residents in the subdivision, as well as residents in Marathon, was completed Sunday evening around 10 p.m.

Consumers currently without electric service should call the AEP Texas Customer Solutions Center (866-223-8508) to ensure that AEP Texas is aware of their situation.

“We appreciate the patience and support from residents and local leaders throughout this restoration process,” Hernandez said.  “That support means a lot to the crews and support staffs who have worked long hours over the past few days.”

This will be the last update that will be posted and issued to area news media.  A "snapshot" view to track the status of current outages can be viewed anytime at www.aeptexas.com/outages .

AEP Texas, a unit of American Electric Power, delivers electricity to over a million homes, businesses and industries in south and west Texas.
