Transitioning to Greener Energy
Indiana Michigan Power’s transition to greener energy is stronger than ever as we move forward with plans to add an additional 450 megawatts (MW) of solar and wind resources, and work progresses on building our largest solar farm yet.
I&M is a leader in greener energy, already generating more than two-thirds of our energy used by our customers from emission-free sources that include solar, wind, hydro and the Cook Nuclear Plant. The Cook Plant generates enough emission-free energy to power 1.5 million homes annually.
I&M is the first major Indiana utility to build and operate a solar generation plant, and our history with wind generation dates back more than a decade. Our renewable portfolio already generates enough energy to power more than 117,000 typical homes.
In 2021, construction will be completed on the 20-MW St. Joseph Solar Farm that I&M is building near South Bend in partnership with the University of Notre Dame. Together with I&M’s plans to add significant wind and solar resources (potentially combined with battery technology), I&M will nearly double the amount of green wind and solar energy generates for our customers.
In addition to providing greener energy for our customers’ homes and businesses, I&M’s diverse energy generation fleet offers more flexibility to respond to developments in technology, regulation and costs to best serve our customers.
