Slow Down. And Stay Alive

This time of year, the weather can change in an instant – and so can road conditions. In a flash, drivers can find themselves off the road and headed for trouble. At Indiana Michigan Power, we care about your safety.

If you’re in a vehicle accident that involves a downed power line or utility pole, the safest thing to do is STOP – and think. Stay in your vehicle if you can – it could be the safest place for you.

Honk your horn to get someone’s attention, or if you have a mobile phone, call 911. Emergency rescue professionals will call us to make the situation safer.

If you see a stranded vehicle touching power lines, resist the urge to rush to the scene. Downed power lines can be hidden in brush or obscured by the dark.  Never approach the vehicle. Call 911 and let the people inside know that you will get help.

Accidents happen fast. And the impulse to act is immediate. But when it comes to downed power lines, I&M reminds you to slow down and stay alive.
